Taking Paperless One Step Further
This post is part of the Moms’ 30-Minute Blog Challenge over at Steady Mom.
As I stumbled downstairs this morning to make a pot of coffee in hopes of getting my brain to begin functioning properly, I realized that there was one paperless aspect of our kitchen that I failed to mention in my last post (an amazing thought considering that I hadn’t had my morning coffee yet).
Behold! The reuseable coffee filter!
Your coffee maker may have actually come with one of these, which you immediately ignored and went out to purchase the traditional paper filters. In case you threw yours out, you can buy one of these in the grocery store for less than $10. It is easy to care for- just dump the used grounds in the compost and giveĀ the filterĀ a quick rinse. You will save money and the planet before you’ve even had your first cuppa joe each morning.
Once you’ve used it, you’ll wonder why you ever used paper in the first place.

We do that, too! Love not having to have the filters around!
Kim,
We’ve been doing the paperless filter for about 6 months and now I wonder why we were ever using paper in the first place! It is amazing what slips by unnoticed until we pause to consider there may be an alternative to the status quo.
Thanks for your comment!
we love ours, too. why don’t more people know about these?
We just have to spread the word!!
I have GOT to get one of these! what a DUH moment when I saw this… Hmm. Wonder if i have the original stuffed in the closet? Will have to check when I get home! Thanks for the reminder.
Annie- Thanks for your comment. It made me laugh! I had a similar ‘aha moment’ when someone else’s blog reminded me that I didn’t need to be using the paper filters. I also wondered why I didn’t think of it on my own…
LOL, it sounds so simple, but I never considered a reusable coffee filter. I’ll have to get one. That not only is green, but it will also save me lots of money in the long run. Thanks for the idea!
Beth-
I know you are all about saving money! LOL!
I love that being green and being frugal usually end up being one and the same. It’s not just about buying all the really expensive stuff.
